I'll be one of 18 new graduates of The University of Baltimore's MFA in Creative Writing & Publishing Arts program to give a reading during the Class of 2021's book festival and performance, on Saturday, May 8, beginning at 2 p.m.
This year is different – everything is on Zoom. We recorded our readings last week. But the spirit is still there, and I think I did all right going through the first few pages of "Mayvelle."
Last night I read live (on Zoom, anyway) from "Mom Doesn't Like Y'all," a story that's just been published in the journal Welter. I had planned to include "Mom" in Useless, but decided to hold it back. That reading went well, too. One of the other readers for Welter made it in from China. He stuck around and heard me, I think. As far as I'm concerned, reading online is just fine.
You can log in to the MFA party any time after 1:45 p.m. ET this Saturday. The code is https://ubalt.zoom.us/j/99526577638.
